Board Exam Tips

Is your heart throbbing fast for an upcoming board exam?

Here in the Philippines, many college graduates undergo the professional licensure examinations, or commonly Board Exam, in various fields of study, such as civil engineering, education and nursing. It is unavoidable that passing the board has a factor of luck, considering the the vast scope of what we have to review, and the possibility that wrong answers might be mistaken to be correct.

The best advice is, to really FOCUS during review period, as this is a crucial stage in our professional lives. But of course, you need to have short periods of relaxation so as not to spoil yourself.

Now, let's try to make things simple...

It is unavoidable that we encounter questions never heard before and sometimes, we're just not sure if we remember the answer right due to the tension from the crucial moment. Let me share to you the following tips I learned from personal experience.

1. Skip it first. After answering all items that you are sure you know very well, go back to the ones you skipped. Take extra care in shading if this is to be done.

2. Look for patterns in your answer sheet. Take a look at the figure below.

The answer in item number 40 is the option that will not break the continuity of the pattern, that is, letter C.

3. If two among the four choices display same answers, the first of the two is the correct one.

In this case, the answer will be letter A.

4. If one of the choices look different or has a different format as the other three, usually that's the correct answer. Always be keen with these obvious giveaways.

The choice in letter C will the right one.

Take note that these tips were applicable with high probability during my time, so I cannot guarantee that it will still be effective nowadays, but they are worth noting. Try to figure out those patterns for yourself as you go along those past board materials you have at hand.

Hope this will help even a bit. Never EVER lose confidence that you can pass.
